The countdown has begun.

Today included, I have five days left here in the United States. At the start of the sixth day (June 3), I fly out a crazy o’clock in the morning, have a short layover in Chicago and then later in the evening on that same day, I’ll arrive in England.

Holy. Wow. It’s actually happening. Can you believe it? I can hardly believe it.

The stress is beginning to fade away and I’m finally learning to just let stuff go when it comes to this business of The Big Move. The shipping aspect being the biggest thing to let go of; organizing the process of shipping your things OUT of the country is a major pain in the arse and when all is said and done, most of it is stuff that can be replaced or packed away for a while. Of course there are sentimental items involved, but really those things do not need to come with me right now and quite honestly, I just cannot be bothered. I’m mentally spent, emotionally exhausted (and the most difficult part isn’t even over with), and really I’m just ready to be there with Si. Stuff can be shipped later, but right now I just need to be there with my guy.

Ramone is all set to go. I’ll bring him to the Pet (Travel) Agent on Monday morning as they have his last two vet appointments set up for that day, and then he flies out in the afternoon on Tuesday (June 3) and he’ll arrive in England on Wednesday (June 4). The Pet Agent folks at Goldwood Kennels have truly been wonderful; this guy Tony, who owns the place, has been an angel dealing with me and all my nervous dog-mommy questions. He even said they’d treat Ramone like a VIP, which I’m sure they will treat him well but I’m also sure the VIP remark was just to help calm my nerves a bit. Either way, it was a nice gesture and I’m going out on a limb trusting people I really do not know with the safe handling and care of my little pup.

The to-do list has been whittled down to a handful of items and though it’s all very manageable, I still have a tendency to look at every last thing and think it has to all be done at the same time. Talk about creating unnecessary stress, so last night I decided to take a break from the list and left it at work. I just chilled out for a bit and I must say, it was the best idea I’ve had in a while as I had a nice afternoon / evening. Of course there will be some last-minute items to take care of but most of my life has been spent doing things last minute, it’s how I do my best work. And before you ask, of course Si knows this and yes, he asked me to marry him anyway. What a guy, eh?

  1. Ever the romantic, I am very much looking forward to following your journey. I hope you keep posting when you get there :).

    1. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. 🙂 I definitely plan to keep the blog going, I think it’ll be a great outlet for me as I adjust to a new way of life as well as a great outlet for friends, family, and all who are curious about what it’s like to live in another country. 😀
